
Eagle Butte Man Pleads Guilty to Assaulting a Federal Officer

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Tyler J. Peterson, age 30, of Eagle Butte, appeared before U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange on March 28, 2011, and pled guilty to count 1 of an indictment that charged him with Assaulting a Federal Officer. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 20 years' imprisonment. The charge stems from an incident whereby Peterson was arrested in October 2010. The investigation was conducted by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Division. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Marie H. Ruettgers. A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for June 13, 2011. The defendant was released on bond pending sentencing. |
