Man Sentenced for Failure to Pay Legal Child Support

US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Tacoma, Washington, man charged with Failure to Pay Legal Child Support was sentenced on January 21, 2011, by US District Judge Karen E. Schreier. Douglas G. Larew, age 57, was sentenced to 5 years of probation, a $100 special assessment to the Victims’ Assistance Fund, and child support restitution in the amount of $47,728.90.
Larew was indicted for failing to pay over $39,000 in past due child support by a federal grand jury on June 9, 2009. Larew was ordered by the Superior Court of Washington, County of Pierce, to pay $434 per month for his minor child, commencing April 1, 2004. At the time of indictment, he had not made a child support payment since October of 2007, and the total arrearage amount was $39,482.90. He pleaded guilty to the charge on October 19, 2010.
The case was investigated the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General. Assistant US Attorneys Thomas J. Wright and Mark A. Vargo prosecuted the case.
