Oglala Man Sentenced for Child Abuse

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that an Oglala man charged with Felony Child Abuse and Neglect was sentenced on February 7, 2011, by US District Court Judge Jeffrey L. Viken. Dominic Roan Eagle, Sr., age 29, was sentenced to eight months of imprisonment, three years of supervised release, and a $100 victim assessment.

Roan Eagle was indicted by a federal grand jury on June 15, 2010. In May 2010, he violently shook his four-month old son, causing serious injuries. Roan Eagle pled guilty on October 29, 2010.

This case was investigated by the OST, BIA, and FBI. Assistant US Attorney Mark A. Vargo prosecuted the case.

Roan Eagle was immediately turned over to the custody of the US Marshal.
