Kyle Man Pleads to Sex Abuse

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Donald Bear Runner, Jr., age 26, of Kyle, appeared before U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken on August 12, 2011, and pled guilty to a charge of Sexual Abuse. The maximum penalty upon conviction is life imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine.

In August 2010, near Kyle, Bear Runner engaged in a sexual act with a female who was unable to give consent. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Oglala Sioux Tribe-Department of Public Safety. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah B. Collins.

A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for November 14, 2011. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending sentencing.
