Wounded Knee Woman Pleads Guilty to Larceny

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Sandra Martinez, age 20, of Wounded Knee, appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy on December 22, 2011, and pled guilty to a charge of Larceny. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 1 year of imprisonment and/or a $100,000 fine.
In June 2011 at Pine Ridge, Martinez stole a bank card from another individual and made unauthorized purchases with it. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs Office of Justice Services. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah B. Collins.
A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for March 2, 2012. The defendant was released on bond pending sentencing.
