Minnesota Man Sentenced for Failure to Pay Legal Child Support

US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Luverne, Minnesota, man charged with Failure to Pay Legal Child Support was sentenced on January 26, 2011, by Chief US District Judge Karen E. Schreier. Myron J. Waddington, age 30, was sentenced to 5 years of probation, 6 months of home confinement, a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund, and child support restitution in the amount of $15,214.89.

Waddington was indicted for failing to pay over $14,000 in past due child support by a federal grand jury on May 4, 2010. Waddington was ordered by the Second Judicial Circuit Court, Minnehaha County, to pay $189 per month for his minor child, commencing September 1, 2000. At the time of the indictment, he had not made a child support payment since December 2009, and his total arrearage amount was $14,670.79. He pled guilty to the charge on October 6, 2010.

This case was investigated the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General. Assistant US Attorney Thomas J. Wright prosecuted the case.
