Fort Thompson Man Pleads Guilty to Sexual Abuse

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Craig W. Kirkie, age 46, of Fort Thompson, appeared before U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange on January 4, 2012, and pled guilty to Count I of the Indictment that charged him with Sexual Abuse. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 20 years' imprisonment.

The conviction stems from an incident on the day after Thanksgiving of 2005. The victim had just turned 16 the month prior and the defendant was 40.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Crow Creek Agency. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan N. Dilges.

A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for March 27, 2012. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending sentencing.
