Parmelee Man Sentenced for Sexual Abuse of a Minor

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Parmelee, South Dakota, man charged with Sexual Abuse of a Minor was sentenced on January 9, 2012, by United States District Judge Roberto A. Lange.

Ian James Burning Breast, age 19, was sentenced to 33 months in custody, 5 years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund. The defendant was also ordered to register as a sex offender.

Burning Breast was indicted by a federal grand jury on April 5, 2011, and pled guilty to the charge on October 20, 2011. During the time period of October 1, 2010, to December 31, 2010, Ian James Burning Breast engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim, at a time when she was 13 years old and he was over 18 years old.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. Assistant United States Attorney Tim Maher prosecuted the case.

Burning Breast was immediately turned over to the custody of the United States Marshal.
