US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Martin Charger, age 37, of Lower Brule, South Dakota, appeared before US District Judge Roberto A. Lange on December 18, 2012, and pled guilty to the Superseding Information that charged him with Sexual Abuse. The maximum penalty upon conviction is life in prison, a $250,000 fine, and a mandatory minimum supervised release term of 5 years to life. An assessment of $100 to the Victim Assistance Fund and restitution may also be ordered.

The charge stems from incidents which occurred between January 1, 2007, and December 31, 2007, when Charger knowingly engaged in and attempted to engage in a sexual act with the victim.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Assistant US Attorney Meghan N. Dilges is prosecuting the case. Charger was released on bond until December 26, 2012. A sentencing date has been set for March 4, 2013.
