Porcupine Man Guilty of Assaulting a Federal Officer

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Dre Red Feather, age 19, of Porcupine, South Dakota, appeared before United States District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken on February 3, 2012, and pled guilty to an indictment that charged him with assaulting a federal officer. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 8 years' custody and/or a $250,000 fine.

The charge relates to Red Feather resisting arrest and hitting the officer multiple times on June 4, 2011, at Porcupine. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety.

A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for May 7, 2012. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing.
