Pine Ridge Man Sentenced for Assault

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Pine Ridge man charged with Assault by Striking, Beating, or Wounding was sentenced on March 5, 2012, by U.S. Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy. Xavier Long, age 49, was sentenced to one year of probation and a $10 assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.

In February 2011, near Pine Ridge, Long struck another man in the head, legs, and back with an axe handle after the two had been arguing. Long pled guilty on December 23, 2011.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs - Office of Justice Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah B. Collins prosecuted the case.
