Wanblee Man Guilty of Stealing a Truck

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Godfrey Chipps, age 27, of Wanblee, appeared before U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken on April l6, 2012, and pleaded guilty to an indictment that charged him with Larceny. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 5 years' imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine.

In April 2011, near Wanblee, Chipps stole a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck from a residence. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services and the Oglala Sioux Tribe-Department of Public Safety. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Kelderman.

A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for July 30, 2012. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending sentencing.
