Rapid City Woman Pleads Guilty to Bank Embezzlement

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Jessica Frease, age 19, of Rapid City, appeared before U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken on June 19, 2012, and pleaded guilty to a charge of Bank Embezzlement. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 30 years' imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine.

Between December 2011 and January 2012, Frease stole checks from mailboxes and then cashed them at a local bank where she worked. The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Pennington County Sheriff's Office. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Kelderman.

A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for October 29, 2012. The defendant was released on bond pending sentencing.
