Colorado Man Sentenced for Possession of an Unregistered Firearm
Assistant United States Attorney
United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Colorado man charged with Possession of an Unregistered Firearm was sentenced on August 1, 2012, by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken. David McKeehan, age 48, was sentenced to 115 months' imprisonment, 3 years of supervised release, and was ordered to pay $100 to the Victim Assistance Fund.
In June 2010, after a traffic stop by the South Dakota Highway Patrol, law enforcement officers found two sawed-off shotguns and an SKS in McKeehan's vehicle, none of which were registered to him. He pled guilty on April 5, 2012.
This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the South Dakota Highway Patrol, and the Meade County Sheriff's Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Kelderman prosecuted the case.
McKeehan was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal.
