Lower Brule Man Indicted on Child Pornography Charges
Assistant United States Attorney
US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Lower Brule, South Dakota, man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for charges relating to child pornography.
Leroy Good Face, age 26, was indicted by a federal grand jury on January 10, 2012, for Receipt and Distribution of Child Pornography, Possession of Child Pornography, and Accessing Child Pornography. He appeared before US Magistrate Judge John E. Simko on January 19, 2012, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a maximum of 20 years’ imprisonment and a $250,000 fine. The charges are merely accusations, and Good Face is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
The investigation is being conducted by the US Department of Homeland Security, the South Dakota Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, the Pennington County Sheriff's Office, and the Lower Brule Police Department. Assistant US Attorney Jeffrey C. Clapper is prosecuting the case. Good Face was released on bond pending trial. A trial date has not yet been set.
This case is being brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by the United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
