DANIEL HENRY LANE, JR. SENTENCED FOR FIREARM VIOLATION

Project Safe Neighborhoods

Daniel Henry Lane, Jr., age 55, of Sullivan County, Tennessee, was sentenced to 180 months in federal prison in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee at Greeneville, by the Honorable J. Ronnie Greer, United States District Judge. The sentence was the result of a guilty plea by Lane on June 2, 2008, to a federal grand jury indictment charging him with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm or ammunition in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 922(g)(1).

The indictment of and subsequent guilty plea by Lane was the result of an investigation by the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). The investigation began when the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department was contacted by someone complaining of a neighbor who alleged that Lane had damaged their lawn and had pointed a shotgun at them when they confronted him. Lane was carrying a .20 gauge shotgun shell in his pocket. The case was referred by the Second Judicial District Attorney’s Office for federal prosecution as part of the “Project Safe Neighborhoods” initiative.
