Franklin Man Senteced to Twelve Years in Prison for receivning and Distributing Child Pornography

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TUESDAY, JUNE 24, 2010

United States Attorney Jerry E. Martin announced today that Scott Z. Myers, 28, formerly of Franklin, Tennessee was sentenced to serve 12- years in prison for receiving and distributing child pornography via the Internet.  The sentence was imposed on June 18, 2010 by Chief District Judge Todd Campbell, who also ordered that when Myers is released from his prison sentence, he will be supervised and monitored by the Federal Probation Office for the rest of his life.  There is no parole release in the federal system.

Officers of the Franklin Police Department discovered Myers’ conduct in September 2009, while they were engaged in an on-line undercover operation.  After undercover officers accepted Myers’ invitation to access and view child pornography that was stored on Myers’ computer, officers obtained a federal search warrant and seized his computer.  A forensic examination of the computer’s contents revealed multiple images of minors engaged in sexual activity.  Myers was subsequently indicted, and pleaded guilty to child pornography charges in January 2010.

“Those who possess and distribute child pornography aid and abet the continuing abuse of children, who are the most vulnerable of victims, in an egregious fashion,” said the United States Attorney.  “The penalties provided for such criminal conduct, and the sentence imposed in this case, accurately reflect the views held by the public, Congress, the courts and this office with regard to such conduct. Our continuing goal is to properly punish and hopefully deter these terrible crimes against children.”

The case was investigated by the Franklin Police Department, and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Carrie Daughtrey, Byron Jones and Hilliard Hester.
