Edward L. Stanton, III Confirmed by US Senate
to Serve as US Attorney for Western District of Tennessee

Memphis, TN - The Department of Justice announced today the United States Senate has confirmed Edward L. Stanton, III to serve as United States Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee. Mr. Stanton will replace Lawrence J. Laurenzi who was chosen to serve as United States Attorney in May 2008.

"I am elated and deeply honored that the Senate has confirmed my nomination. I'm looking forward to assuming the duties as the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee,” said Stanton.

Prior to his appointment as U. S. Attorney, Edward Stanton was Senior Counsel with Federal Express Corporation in Memphis where he was a member of the legal department's commercial litigation team. Stanton is a native of Memphis. He graduated from University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1994 and Juris Doctorate in 1997.

The Nation’s 93 United States Attorneys are responsible for the prosecution of federal crimes such as firearms, narcotics, money laundering, pornography and fraud; the defense of civil cases brought against the United States; and the collection of debts owed to the United States and restitution owed by criminals to their victims.
