Millington Resident Pleads Guilty to Filing False Tax Return
Memphis, TN – Kelly Brown O’Connor, 40, of Millington, Tennessee, pled guilty before United States District Court Judge Jon P. McCalla to one count of filing a false income tax return announced Lawrence J. Laurenzi, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee. Brown- O’Connor faces a maximum penalty of 3 years in prison and fine of $250,000 when she is sentenced on December 10, 2008.
According to an Information filed for the plea hearing, Brown O’Connor filed a 2004 federal income tax return with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that reported gross receipts of $22,467.00. The Information states that Brown O’Connor received an additional $60,978.00 in gross income that year that was not reported.
As part of her plea agreement, Brown O’Connor agrees to file an amended tax return for 2004 with the IRS and to file an accurate tax return for calendar year 2004. Brown-O’Connor also agrees to cooperate with the United States in the investigation of others.
The case was investigated by Federal Bureau of Investigation and Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen C. Parker.
