Newbern, Tennessee Man Indicted for Manufacturing and Possessing Methamphetamine

Memphis, TN – Chad Wilson, 22, of Newbern, Tennessee, was indicted by a federal grand jury on December 19, 2007, announced David Kustoff, United States Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee. The defendant was arrested without incident on January 7, 2008, and has been released on bond.

Count One of the indictment alleges that on or about November 8, 2007, Chad Wilson possessed equipment, chemical, products, and materials which may be used to manufacture methamphetamine, while having reasonable cause to believe that those items would be used to manufacture methamphetamine.

Count Two of the indictment alleges that on or about November 8, 2007, Chad Wilson manufactured at least 50 grams of a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine.

Count Three of the indictment alleges that on or about November 8, 2007, Chad Wilson possessed at least 50 grams of a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine, with the intent to distribute.

Count One carries a penalty of not more than ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Counts Two and Three each carry a penalty of not less than five years and not more than 40 years in prison and a $2,000,000 fine.

This case was investigated by the West Tennessee Judicial Violent Crime and Drug Task Force, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and the Newbern Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Arun G. Rao is prosecuting the case for the government.
