Jackson, Tennessee Man Sentenced on Gun Charges
Jackson, TN - James Edward Estes, 60, of Jackson, Tennessee was sentenced today by United States District Judge James D. Todd to 204 months custody in the Bureau of Prisons announced Lawrence J. Laurenzi, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee. Estes pled guilty on February 27, 2008 to being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Because of his prior convictions, Estes was found by the Court to be an armed career criminal and subject to an enhanced sentence under federal statutes. In addition to his prior convictions qualifying him to be an armed career criminal, Estes had been previously convicted in federal courts of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm on two prior occasions.
This case was investigated by the Jackson Police Department patrol officers, Jackson Police Department gang unit and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney R. Leigh Grinalds prosecuted the case for the government.
