Armed Career Criminal Gets 35 Years in Prison
Jackson, TN - Troy Demetrius Grimes of Jackson, TN was sentenced on March 25, 2008 by United States District Judge James D. Todd to 405 months in the Bureau of Prisons with 5 years supervised release to be served consecutively to 24 months for violation of his supervised release on a prior felon in possession of a firearm case in federal court announced David Kustoff, United States Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee.
Those sentences were ordered to be served consecutively to his remaining Madison County state sentence. Grimes was convicted at trial of being a prior convicted felon in possession of a firearm on December 21, 2007. Because of Grimes’ serious prior criminal history Judge Todd found Grimes to be an armed career criminal subject an enhanced sentence. Grimes was arrested by officers of the Jackson Police Department Gang Unit after responding to a call of an assault in progress and recovered a firearm from Grimes. The Gang Unit brought the case to the U. S. Attorney’s Office for prosecution. Assistant United States Attorney Leigh Grinalds handled the case for the government.
