Crockett County Man Sentenced to 180 Months

Jackson, TN - BRIAN SMITH, 33, of Crockett County was sentenced today in United States District Court announced Lawrence J. Laurenzi, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee.  Chief Judge James D. Todd imposed a total sentence of one hundred eighty (180) months in prison.  SMITH was sentenced to 180 months  for possession of over 5 grams of cocaine base (crack cocaine) and 120 months for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, for a total concurrent sentence of 180 months.
 
SMITH plead guilty on November 30, 2007.  The evidence against him showed that SMITH was distributing cocaine base (crack cocaine) from his residence in Alamo, Tennessee.  Agents with the 28th Judicial District Drug Task Force made an undercover drug purchase from SMITH at his residence.  After obtaining a search warrant, numerous items to include two firearms, drug paraphernalia, crack cocaine, ecstasy pills, marihuana, a police scanner and digital scales.  Also searched  was  SMITH’s place of business.  Marihuana was discovered and seized at that location. SMITH was arrested at an Alamo baseball field where he was coaching a group of pre-teen boys.  At the time of his arrest, SMITH was in possession of cocaine base (crack cocaine).                                 

The investigation was handled by the 28th Judicial District Drug Task Force, Crockett County Sheriff’s Department, Milan Police Department and the Humboldt Police Department.  Assistant United States Attorney Jerry Kitchen handled the case for the government.
