DALLAS MAN SENTENCED FOR FEDERAL DRUG VIOLATIONS
Methamphetamine Charges result in more than 15 Year Sentence

TYLER, TX – United States Attorney John L. Ratcliffe announced today that a 25-year-old Dallas man has been sentenced to 189 months in federal prison for federal drug violations in the Eastern District of Texas. 

            IVAN AVILA was sentenced for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine by United States District Judge Michael Schneider today.

According to information presented in court, an investigation began in January 2006 into the distribution of “ice” methamphetamine in East Texas.  A Federal indictment was returned on January 9, 2007 charging Avila with federal drug violations.  Avila pleaded guilty to the charges on February 21, 2007.

            This case was investigated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office.  This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Richard L. Moore.
