SHERMAN, TX --     United States Attorney John L. Ratcliffe announced today that a 37-year-old Fort Worth man has been sentenced to nine months in federal prison for bank fraud in the Eastern District of Texas.

CHRISTOPHER DON DEVEREAUX pleaded guilty to bank fraud on June 18, 2007 and was sentenced by United States District Judge Richard Schell today.  Devereaux was also ordered to pay restitution of $55,300.00.

According to information presented in court, Devereaux was employed as a personal chef for a Dallas-area professional athlete.  During the course of his employment, Devereaux altered checks provided to him for payment for his services, increasing the amounts that were originally written on the checks.  Devereaux also stole checks from his employer’s residence and drafted them for deposit into his account.

This case was investigated by the United States Secret Service and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shamoil T. Shipchandler.
