LIBERTY COUNTY MAN GUILTY OF FEDERAL GUN CRIMES
(BEAUMONT, TX) United States Attorney John L. Ratcliffe announced today that a 44-yar-old Ames, Texas man has pleaded guilty to federal gun violations in the Eastern District of Texas.
DON PATRICK TRAHAN admitted to being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm today before United States Magistrate Judge Keith F. Giblin.
According to information presented in court, on January 14, 2006, law enforcement officials responded to a call in reference to a man discharging a firearm in Ames. Trahan was located at the scene with a shotgun in the trunk of his car. Further investigation revealed that Trahan had been convicted of Possession of a Controlled Substance in October 2000 in Harris County. Because Trahan is a convicted felon, he is prohibited from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition.
Trahan faces up to 10 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.00 at sentencing. A sentencing date has not been set for either defendant at this time.
This case is being investigated by the Liberty County Sheriff's Office the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Randall Fluke.
