TYLER, TX – United States Attorney John L. Ratcliffe announced today that a 29-year-old Mexican National has pleaded guilty to federal firearm violations in the Eastern District of Texas. 

JESUS A. GONZALEZ-OLVERA pleaded guilty to being an unlawful alien in possession of a firearm today before United States Magistrate Judge Judith K. Guthrie.

According to information presented in court, police officers were dispatched to a home in Longview on September 20, 2006, where Gonzalez-Olvera was found to be in possession of a machine gun which he was firing inside the residence while his family members were present.  An investigation revealed that Gonzalez-Olvera was an alien illegally in the United States.  A federal grand jury indicted Gonzalez-Olvera in January 2007.

Gonzalez-Olvera faces up to10 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000 at sentencing.  The defendant has also agreed to forfeit the machine gun.  A sentencing date has not been set.

            This case is being investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Longview Police Department.  This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Richard L. Moore.
