LIBERTY, TEXAS MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO FEDERAL DRUG VIOLATIONS
(Beaumont, TX) United States Attorney Becky Gregory announced today that a 70 year old Liberty, Texas man has pleaded guilty to federal drug violations in the Eastern District of Texas.
ALFRED JOSEPH FONTENOT had pleaded guilty Thursday during an appearance before United States Magistrate Judge Keith Giblin. A sentencing date has not been set.
According to information presented in Court, in October, 2007, police stopped Sheldon Cummings, who was driving a truck pulling a horse trailer, near Houston, Texas. Officers discovered 147 pounds of marijuana inside the horse trailer. Cummings agreed to deliver the marijuana to the intended recipient. The marijuana, truck and horse trailer were delivered to Fontenot, who indicated in taped recorded conversations that he had been expecting the delivery of the marijuana, and that the marijuana was to eventually be transported to individuals in Louisiana.
This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Chambers County Narcotics Task Force. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Dave Henderson.
