(BEAUMONT TX)    United States Attorney Rebecca A. Gregory announced today that a 35-year-old Baton Rouge man has pleaded guilty to drug violations in the Eastern District of Texas.
ARTHUR JAMES LEONARD admitted to possession with the intent to distribute cocaine today before United States Magistrate Judge Marcia Crone.

            According to information presented in court, on April 28, 2008, Leonard was stopped by a Jefferson County Sheriff's deputy on IH-10 in Jefferson County for a traffic violation.  A search of Leonard's vehicle revealed a computer bag containing cocaine.  Leonard was indicted by a federal grand jury on May 28, 2008.

            Leonard faces up to 40 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $2 million.  A sentencing date has not been set.

This case is being investigated by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and Immigration and Customs Enforcement and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Michelle Englade.
