LUFKIN ANESTHESIOLOGIST WAIVES EXTRADITION
LUFKIN, TX – United States Attorney John L. Ratcliffe announced today that a 39-year-old Lufkin anesthesiologist has agreed to waive extradition in the Eastern District of Texas.
DR. PRIYA RAMNATH appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Earl S. Hines today. She was ordered to surrender to the United States Marshals on February 22, 2008.
According to information presented in court, Ramnath has agreed to return to England to face charges stemming from the 1998 death of a patient who allegedly died from a lethal overdose of adrenaline administered by Ramnath. Five years after the 51-year-old patient's death, the British government filed a Manslaughter Contrary to Law charge against Ramnath. At the time the charge was filed, Ramnath was living in Lufkin where she was practicing medicine at the local hospitals.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Reynaldo P. Morin is handling this case for the government.
