               BEAUMONT TX –    United States Attorney Rebecca A. Gregory announced that a 46-year-old Wells, Texas man has been sentenced to 57 months in federal prison for drug violations in the Eastern District of Texas.

               JACKIE WAYNE REDD pleaded guilty on December 27, 2007 to distribution of red phosphorous for use in the manufacturing of methamphetamine and was sentenced today by United States District Judge Thad Heartfield.

                According to information presented in court, on May 24, 2006, Redd was contacted by an individual inquiring as to where they could purchase red phosphorous for the manufacture of methamphetamine.  Redd agreed to meet the individual on College Street in Beaumont where he delivered over 55 grams of red phosphorous in exchange for $500.    Redd was indicted by a federal grand jury on September 6, 2007. 

                This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Texas Department of Public Safety and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John Craft.
