FRISCO, TEXAS WOMAN SENTENCED TOTWO YEARS PROBATION FOR THEFT OF FUNDS
(Texarkana, TX) United States Attorney Becky Gregory announced today that a 40 year old Frisco, Texas woman has been sentenced to two years probation for theft of funds in the Eastern District of Texas.
STEPHANIE SMITH, who had previously pleaded guilty to the theft charge, was sentenced today during an appearance before the Honorable Judge David Folsom.
According to information presented in Court, Smith, who was employed at the Federal Correctional Institution in Texarkana, served as the Treasurer for the correctional institution's Employees Club. During her tenure as treasurer, Smith stole more than $8000.00 in club funds by falsifying financial records. The money stolen was to benefit members of the Employees Club by paying for social events and reimbursing the Federal Correctional Institution for vending machine rental space within the facility.
This case was investigated by the United States Department of Justice, Office of the Inspector General. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Denise Simpson.
