            TYLER, TX --  U.S. Attorney Rebecca Gregory announced today that a 47-year-old Overton, Texas woman has been sentenced to federal prison for drug-related crimes in the Eastern District of Texas. 

            JANET CASANOVA ALANIS pleaded guilty on Nov. 3, 2008 to possession with intent to distribute and distribution of methamphetamine and was sentenced today to 30 months in federal prison by United States District Judge Leonard E. Davis.  Alanis also agreed to a forfeiture judgment in the amount of $5,000.00 and all property seized.

            According to information presented in court, since July 2007, Alanis had been distributing methamphetamine in and around Kilgore, Texas.  A federal indictment was returned on Sep. 9, 2008, charging Alanis with drug trafficking violations. 

            This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Gregg County Organized Drug Enforcement Unit (CODE), the Gregg County Sheriff's Office, the Rusk County Sheriff's Office, the Rusk County District Attorney's Office, and the Gregg County District Attorney's Office.  This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Richard L. Moore.
