PORT ARTHUR MAN ARRESTED FOR FEDERAL DRUG VIOLATIONS
(BEAUMONT, TX) U.S. Attorney John M. Bales announced today that a 30-year-old Port Arthur, Texas man was arrested and charged with drug violations in the Eastern District of Texas.
A criminal complaint charging TRAVIS BOONE with possession with intent to distribute cocaine was filed by federal agents today.
According to prosecutors, Boone was arrested on July 31, 2009, at his Port Arthur residence where federal agents seized 5 kilograms of cocaine. The arrest is the result of a 7-month investigation led by the Port Arthur Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. These agencies were assisted Friday by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, the Groves Police Department, the Port Neches Police Department, and the Orange County Sheriff's Office. During this investigation, law enforcement authorities have seized 18 kilograms of cocaine and 8 firearms. Additional arrests and charges are expected.
Boone faces up to Life in federal prison if convicted.
It is important to note that a complaint, arrest, or indictment should not be considered as evidence of guilt and that all persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
This case is being investigated by the Port Arthur PD, DEA and ATF and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Michelle Englade and Robert Hobbs.
