DALLAS MAN GUILTY OF FEDERAL DRUG CHARGES
TYLER, TX – U.S. Attorney Rebecca A. Gregory announced today that a 23-year-old Dallas man has pleaded guilty to federal drug charges in the Eastern District of Texas.
ALFREDO LIRA, JR. pleaded guilty today to an Information charging him with being involved in a conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute cocaine. The plea hearing was held before U.S. Magistrate Judge John D. Love.
According to information presented in court, Lira was arrested in Dallas on April 16, 2008 and found to be in possession of approximately 6 kilograms of cocaine. Further investigation revealed that Lira purchased the cocaine in San Antonio to be distributed in the Tyler area. It was also revealed that Lira has been a fugitive from justice and was already facing charges for distribution of methamphetamine in June 2002 in the Eastern District of Texas. Lira pleaded guilty to those charges on August 19, 2008, and is awaiting sentencing.
Lira faces up to Life in federal prison and a $3 million fine at sentencing. A sentencing date has not been set.
This case is being investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Dallas Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Baldwin.
