ILLINOIS MAN SENTENCED FOR DRUGS ON AMTRAK
TYLER, TX -- U.S. Attorney Rebecca Gregory announced today that a 26-year-old Springfield, Illinois man has been sentenced to federal prison for drug violations in the Eastern District of Texas.
JAMES AARON CUMMINGS pleaded guilty to possession with the intent to distribute cocaine and was sentenced today to 84 months in federal prison by United States District Judge Michael H. Schneider.
According to information presented in court, Cummings was arrested on Mar. 28, 2008, in Longview while traveling on the Amtrak train system. He was in possession of a kilogram of cocaine and 22 grams of crack cocaine. Cummings was indicted by a federal grand jury on May 13, 2008.
This case was investigated by the Longview Police Department, Houston Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary Ann Cozby.
