LAKEPORT MAN SENTENCED FOR FEDERAL DRUG VIOLATIONS
TYLER, TX – U.S. Attorney Rebecca A. Gregory announced today that a 35-year-old Lakeport, Texas man has been sentenced to federal prison for drug violations in the Eastern District of Texas.
JOHN RICHARD HARMON, JR., pleaded guilty on Oct. 30, 2008, to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and distribution of more than 5 grams of crack cocaine and was sentenced today to 78 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Leonard E. Davis.
According to information presented in court, since July 2006, Harmon had been distributing crack cocaine to others in and around the Longview, Texas area. A federal indictment was returned on Sep. 9, 2008, charging Harmon and four others with federal crimes.
This case is being investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the East Texas HIDTA Violent Crimes Task Force, the Gregg County C.O.D.E. Unit, the Gregg County Sheriff's Office, the Longview Police Department and the Gregg County District Attorney's Office and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard L. Moore.
