SAN ANTONIO MAN INDICTED FOR ROBBING BEAUMONT BANK
BEAUMONT, TX – U.S. Attorney John M. Bales announced today that a 32-year-old San Antonio man has been indicted and charged with bank robbery in the Eastern District of Texas.
AKRAM SANTIAGO HAIFA was indicted late yesterday on charges of bank robbery and using a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence .
According to the indictment, on June 25, 2009, Haifa is alleged to have entered the Guaranty Bank located on Interstate 10 in Beaumont, brandishing a firearm and ordering bank tellers to put the money from their teller drawers into a box he brought into the bank.
If convicted, Haifa faces up to 25 years in federal prison.
This case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney John B. Ross.
A grand jury indictment is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
