SAN ANTONIO MAN GUILTY OF ROBBING BEAUMONT BANK
BEAUMONT, TX – U.S. Attorney John M. Bales announced today that a 32-year-old San Antonio man has pleaded guilty to bank robbery in the Eastern District of Texas.
AKRAM SANTIAGO HAIFA pleaded guilty to bank robbery today before U.S. District Judge Marcia Crone .
According to information presented in court, on June 25, 2009, Haifa entered the Guaranty Bank located on Interstate 10 in Beaumont, brandishing a firearm and ordering bank tellers to put the money from their teller drawers into a box he carried into the bank. He was indicted by a federal grand jury on Aug. 5, 2009.
Haifa faces up to 25 years in federal prison at sentencing. A sentencing date has not been set.
This case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney John B. Ross.
