LONGVIEW MAN SENTENCED FOR DRUG DEALING
TYLER, TX – U.S. Attorney John M. Bales announced today that a 50-year-old Longview man has been sentenced to federal prison for trafficking methamphetamine in the Eastern District of Texas.
JAMES EARL MANKINS, JR., pleaded guilty on Feb. 9, 2009, to an Information charging him with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and was sentenced to 87 months in federal prison today by U.S. District Judge Leonard Davis. Mankins must also forfeit all interest in $15,000 cash, which was determined to be proceeds of his illegal activity.
According to information presented in court, Mankins was arrested on Oct. 30, 2008, and found to be in possession of about ½ ounce of methamphetamine. Mankins acquired the methamphetamine from a source in Tyler and distributed it to others in the area.
This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Kilgore Police Department, and the Gregg County Sheriff's Office and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary Ann Cozby.
