BROWNSBORO WOMAN GUILTY OF FEDERAL DRUG CRIMES
TYLER, TX – U.S. Attorney John M. Bales announced today that a 31-year-old Brownsboro, Texas woman has pleaded guilty to federal drug trafficking violations in the Eastern District of Texas.
TARA JEAN ONEY-HICKS pleaded guilty to possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Judith K. Guthrie.
According to information presented in court, Oney-Hicks was involved in a drug distribution ring responsible for distributing methamphetamine to other individuals in the Longview area from April 2008 to April 2009. An indictment was returned by a federal grand jury on May 6, 2009, charging 9 individuals, including Oney-Hicks, with federal drug trafficking crimes.
Oney-Hicks faces up to 20 years in federal prison at sentencing. A sentencing date has not been set.
This case is being investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Smith County Sheriff's Office, the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office, the Canton Police Department, and the Dallas Police Department Gang Unit. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard L. Moore.
