LONGVIEW MAN SENTENCED FOR POSSESSING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

            TYLER, TX – U.S. Attorney John M. Bales announced today that a 56-year-old Longview man has been sentenced for federal child pornography violations in the Eastern District of Texas.

            RODNEY RAY ROSZELL pleaded guilty on June 8, 2009, to an Information charging him with possession of child pornography and was sentenced today to 42 months in federal prison today by U.S. District Judge Leonard E. Davis.  Roszell was also ordered to pay $3,000 in restitution.

            According to information presented in court, on Aug. 9, 2008, law enforcement agents executed a federal search warrant at Roszell's residence and seized his personal computer.  A forensic analysis of the computer revealed a substantial amount of material containing images of child pornography.  Roszell admitted to having between 10 and 150 images of child pornography. 

            This case is being brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
