BEAUMONT, TX – U.S. Attorney Rebecca A. Gregory announced today that a 42-year-old Port Arthur man has been sentenced to federal prison for firearms violations in the Eastern District of Texas.

JOHNNY RAY HILL pleaded guilty on Oct. 20, 2008, to being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm and was sentenced today to 21 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Thad Heartfield.

According to information presented in court, on Oct. 19, 2007, Hill was arrested during a traffic stop and found to be in possession of a firearm.  Further investigation revealed Hill had previously been convicted of Burglary twice in 1987 in Jefferson County.  As a convicted felon, Hill is prohibited by federal law from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition.  Hill was indicted by a federal grand jury on July 16, 2008, and charged with a federal firearms violation.
