BEAUMONT, TX -    United States Attorney Rebecca A. Gregory announced today that a 41-year-old Houston man has been found guilty by a jury of federal firearms violations in the Eastern District of Texas.

TROY KEITH LOCKETT was found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm today by a jury following a trial before United States District Judge Ron Clark.

According to information presented in court, Lockett was arrested just after midnight on Feb. 17, 2007, on Canal Avenue in Groves, TX.  The arrest was the result of police responding to a call reporting a suspicious vehicle passing by several times in a residential area.  Once police arrived, they observed a handgun being tossed from the vehicle.  Further investigation revealed Lockett had previously been convicted of felonies and is prohibited from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition.

Lockett faces up to 10 years in federal prison at sentencing.  A sentencing date has not been set.
The case is being investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Groves Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John Ross.
