ARKANSAS MAN GUILTY OF FEDERAL GUN CRIMES IN EAST TEXAS
TEXARKANA, TX – U.S. Attorney John M. Bales announced today that a 19-year-old Texarkana, Arkansas man has pleaded guilty to federal firearms violations in the Eastern District of Texas.
GARRETT MICHAEL UNDERWOOD pleaded guilty to being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm today before U.S. District Judge David Folsom.
According to information presented in court, in October, 2008, Underwood was found to be in possession of a firearm while being subject to a protection order issued by the circuit court of Miller County, Arkansas, Domestic Relations Division, which prohibited him from possessing a firearm while he was subject to the protection order. Underwood was indicted by a federal grand jury on Dec. 2, 2008.
Underwood faces up to 10 years in federal prison at sentencing. A sentencing date has not been set.
This case is being investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Denise O. Simpson.
