PALESTINE, TEXAS MAN SENTENCED FOR FEDERAL VIOLATIONS
TYLER, TX -- U.S. Attorney Rebecca Gregory announced today that a 33-year-old Palestine, Texas man has been sentenced to federal prison for drug and gun violations in the Eastern District of Texas.
RAYMOND TORRES, JR., pleaded guilty on Nov. 27, 2007, to possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine and carrying a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking and was sentenced today to 132 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Michael Schneider. Torres was also ordered to forfeit two firearms.
According to information provided in court, on Dec. 30, 2006, Torres was arrested following a traffic stop in Van Zandt County. Torres was indicted by a federal grand jury on July 10, 2007, and charged with drug and gun violations.
The case was investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Palestine Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mary Ann Cozby.
