HARDIN COUNTY MAN SENTENCED FOR FIREARMS VIOLATION
Project Safe Neighborhoods conviction nets felon over 21 years in federal prison

BEAUMONT, Texas – U.S. Attorney John M. Bales announced today that a 39-year-old Silsbee, Texas man has been sentenced to federal prison for federal firearms violations in the Eastern District of Texas.

CHARLIE HAGEON was found guilty following a jury trial on Jan. 21, 2010, to being a felon in possession of a firearm and was sentenced to 255 months in federal prison today by U.S. District Judge Ron Clark.

According to information presented in court, on May 1, 2009, Hageon was arrested following a domestic disturbance call at a Cooks Road residence in Silsbee.  A search of the residence revealed a pistol which matched the description of the firearm given to police regarding the domestic disturbance.  Further investigation revealed Hageon was convicted in Hardin County, Texas of 3 counts of burglary of a building in 1992, one count of forgery in 1992, and one count of burglary of a building in 1995.  A convicted felon is prohibited by federal law from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition.

This conviction is yet another important outcome from Project Safe Neighborhoods, a national priority of the United States Department of Justice. PSN is designed as a partnership between federal and local law enforcement to reduce violent crime and gun-related crime through the vigorous enforcement of the criminal provisions of the federal firearms laws.

This case was investigated by the ATF, the Silsbee Police Department and the Hardin County District Attorney's Office and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney David H. Henderson.
