CARROLTON, TEXAS WOMAN GUILTY OF FEDERAL TAX FRAUD
PLANO, Texas – A 63-year-old Carrolton, Texas woman has pleaded guilty to federal income tax violations in the Eastern District of Texas announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales today.
Susan Gill Ruston pleaded guilty to an Information charging her with making a false statement on a tax return today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Don D. Bush.
According to information presented in court, Ruston willfully and intentionally filed a federal Income Tax Return for 2005 in which she claimed to have taxable income of $34,500.00 when she knew her taxable income was at least $163,355.00. Ruston willfully and intentionally filed a federal Income Tax Return for 2006 in which she claimed to have taxable income of $35,346.00, when she knew her taxable income was at least $201,722.36. Ruston filed a federal Income Tax Return for 2007 in which she claimed to have taxable income of $36,583.00, when she knew her taxable income was at least $200,151.92. Ruston filed a federal Income Tax Return for 2008 in which she claimed to have taxable income of $18,283.00, when she knew her taxable income was at least $317,756.75. The total tax loss to the government as a result of Ruston's fraudulent activities is $218,196.00.
Ruston faces up to 3 years in federal prison at sentencing. A sentencing date has not been set.
This case is being investigated by the Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigations and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Andy Williams.
