Trinity County Man Sentenced For Failing To Register As A Sex Offender

BEAUMONT, Texas – A 57-year-old Trinity, Texas man has been sentenced to federal prison for failing to register as a sex offender in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales today.
 
Clarence Robert Ward pleaded guilty on June 12, 2012, to failure to register as a sex offender and was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison today by U.S. District Judge Thad Heartfield.

According to information presented in court, Ward was convicted on indecency with a minor in Polk County, Iowa in 1998.  As a result of this conviction, Ward is required to register under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.  In March 2010, Ward moved to Huntsville, Texas and then in 2011, he moved from Huntsville to Trinity, Texas.  Ward failed to update his sex offender registration with the State of Iowa or to initiate registration with the State of Texas.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
