(Beaumont, TX) United States Attorney Becky Gregory announced today that a 35 year old Fresno, Texas man has been sentenced to 51 months for federal drug violations in the Eastern District of Texas.
JAMES EDMOND JUNIOR JACKSON, who had previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possessing with the intent to distribute cocaine, was sentenced today during an appearance before the Honorable Judge Thad Heartfield. Jackson will also be required to complete a three year term of supervised release.
According to information presented in Court, Jackson was the subject of a drug investigation in the Houston, Texas area. Drug Enforcement Administration agents conducting covert surveillance on Jackson watched as Jackson met with a co-defendant and placed a black gym type bag in the trunk area of his co-defendant's vehicle. The co-defendant then was observed transferring the bag into a semi tractor truck and trailer. DEA agents followed the tractor trailer as it traveled eastbound on IH-10. As the tractor trailer entered Jefferson County, DEA agents were able to summon a marked police unit, who then stopped the eighteen wheeler. A search of the vehicle's cab led to the discovery of approximately 20 kilograms of cocaine secreted behind panels inside the truck. A black gym bag was also recovered from the cab of the tractor trailer.
